Parchment to explode
Hansle Parchment has been carrying the sprint hurdles flag for Jamaica over the past two years becoming the first Jamaican to medal in the 110m hurdles at the Olympics or World Championships after bronze at London 2012.
Parchment, who has lowered the national record a couple of times over the last few years to a respectable 13.05 seconds, which he registered in Eugene last year will be featuring at tomorrow's 11th Jamaica International Invitational Meet inside the National Stadium.
Fireworks are expected as Parchment lines up beside IAAF World Championships silver medallist Ryan Wilson in the 110m hurdles and given the early-season form shown by the University of the West Indies student, it seems likely that the 6'5" Parchment will threaten his 13.05 national record.
Parchment sent a warning at last week's Drake Relays in Des Moines, beating a quality field that included world champion David Oliver, Wilson, Jeff Porter and Andrew Riley; setting a meet record and world leading 13.14 clocking in the process.
It was just the start that supporters of the 23-year-old was hoping to see from Parchment, who suffered an ankle injury during warm-up during last year's National Championships, ruining his chance to challenge for a medal at the World Cham-pionships a few weeks later.
impressive form
Parchment had started last season in equally impressive form, winning three of his five pre-injury races and lowering the national record at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meet in Eugene, Oregon.
In fact, some close to the athlete have suggested that this is the season for him to dip below the 13 seconds barrier, the sort of performance, which would make him the overwhelming favourite for this Summer's Commonwealth Games gold medal.
The men's 110m hurdles is set to run off at 8:50 p.m.
Felix out
Olympic 200 metres champion, Allyson Felix of the United States, has pulled out of tomorrow's IAAF World Challenge Jamaica International Invitational meet.
A release from the organising committee yesterday, said Felix has pulled out of the meet 'due to injuries.' The release added that many international track and field superstars such as Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, Justin Gatlin, Nesta Carter and Felix Sanchez are confirmed to compete.
