Campbell-Brown hits best form
Veronica Campbell-Brown seems to be working herself back into top form after dropping a world-leading 10.86 seconds (+2.0) clocking in a 100-metre event at the Star Athletics Sprint Series meet at Monteverde Academy in Florida yesterday.
Campbell-Brown, who was recently cleared from all charges after missing most of the 2013 season due to a provisional drug ban, has had an up-and-down return to the track, but managed to find her gear, leaving Sholonda Solomon, 11.16, and Jessica Young, 11.18 to look at her heels.
The 16-time Olympic and World Championships medallist also won the 200m at the meet with a barely illegal 22.30 seconds time, with a +2.1 wind factor aiding her.
Meanwhile, Shericka Williams was the best placed Jamaican athlete at Friday night's American Track League meet in Houston, Texas, at Rice University.
Williams, the Olympic and World Championships medallist, placed second in the 400m in 51.91 seconds behind American Olympic bronze medallist DeeDee Trotter (51.47) with Great Britain's Shana Cox, 52.19, finishing third.
Two other Jamaicans competed in the event with Verone Chamber, 53.77, and Jody-Ann Muir, 54.25, finishing down the track in seventh and eighth.
Kimberly Laing was fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.50, behind winner Teneya Jones, 12.96, with Candice Price, 13.04, and Nichole Denby, 13.25, completing the top three.
Richard Phillips was fifth in the 110m hurdles in a time of 13.74 with Adam Spencer 13.51, taking top spot in a close win over Ty Akins, 13.56. Omo Osaghee was third in 13.64.
