Facey tops National Trials
After a sub-par round of 70 on day one of the National Golf Trials, Ian Facey stayed in front of the field for three days, playing steady and impressive rounds to win.
The 20-year-old, who attends the Nova Scotia Eastern University in Fort Lauderdale, finished with a combined total of 296 (70, 73, 76, 77) over four days.
Sean Morris, primed for the challenge on his home course, finished second with 303 (76, 79, 72, 76), seven strokes behind Facey. William Knibbs, another college student, was third with 307 (71, 79, 82, 75).
Montego Bay-based Keith Stein, who just turned senior, ended the trials in fourth position with 309 (82, 77, 75, 77). The next senior in line was Rory Jardine on 315, while Radcliff Knibbs followed with 325 and Robert Chin 328.
closest rival
Easton Williams topped the Super Senior category with rounds of 81, 79, 78 and 82 (320). His closest rival, Opeton Marshall, finished the four rounds on 329. Dudley Wilson was third with 337, while past national representative, Fred Sutherland, was a stroke behind on 338.
In the ladies competition, Rochell Prince took the top position with 326 (82, 80, 89, 75). Junior golfer, Tiana Cruz, was seven strokes behind on 333 (85, 80, 87, 81), while Kei Harris was third with 338 (85, 80, 89, 84).
The selection committee of the Jamaica Golf Association has been given the responsibility of making recommendations for the 2014 team to the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships, which will take place in Puerto Rico in August. An announcement will be made shortly.
