WESTERN BUREAU:
The board of the Amy Muschett Home for the Aged in Duncans, Trelawny, on Monday received a $1 million boost for its efforts to repair the roof of the home.
Chief Accountant at Gore Developments Janice Wilson presented the cheque to Morris Stewart, acting chairman of the board of directors of the home.
Wilson said Gore Developments was happy to assist in the process of improving the quality of life of the nine women and five men who call the place home.
"We are committed to not only building houses, but communities. We wish the board of the Muschett Home continued success as you continue to strive to provide a haven for aged persons," Wilson said.
Welcome gift
For his part, Stewart said it was a welcome gift which would help the board to begin the task of undertaking the well-needed repairs to the roof of the 50-year-old residence.
"We are indeed happy for this donation as it will help us to start the process of renovating our roof, which is badly in need of repair. We are, however, in need of an additional $2 million for the roof," Stewart said.
Stewart said the board would like to expand the facility to house a daycare centre but that additional funds would be needed to undertake that venture.
"So we are really in need of additional financial assistance to help us to complete that project so we can expand the home and raise more revenue to be able to make the home a more service-oriented entity," he said.
Matron of the home, Lurline Black, said she was happy for the donation as it would enhance the quality of life of the residents.
"We are happy for this gift as it will serve to improve our roof. So on behalf of the residents, I say thanks to Gore," she said.
