Clarendon - Council fights chik-v vector
Mayor of May Pen and chairman of the Clarendon Parish Council, Scean Barnswell, is urging the public to help control the spread of the chikungunya virus by cleaning up their surroundings and eliminating all possible mosquito-breeding sites in and around their homes or business places.
Barnswell said yesterday that, so far, there are still no confirmed cases reported for the parish.
The mayor said he was happy there were no confirmed cases and that the council was being proactive and has heightened the parish's vector control efforts to keep it that way.
The council reported that it has provided the Clarendon Health Department with $150,000 to purchase chemicals to carry out fogging activities in several communities.
