Digicel partners with SchoolSMS
THE EDITOR, Sir: Further to my letter titled ' Digicel block hurts business' (Tuesday, September 9, 2014), please see the latest development on the Digicel-SchoolSMS issue.
In a phenomenal and very mature response, Digicel Jamaica has come to an agreement to partner with us towards the development of both our brands.
A senior executive from Digicel made contact with us at SchoolSMS the very same day that The Gleaner printed the article and pledged his company's support for what we are doing to foster better school-parent communications. They have since bent over backwards to accommodate our concerns and they are actively considering many of our proposals.
The Digicel employee gave a reasonable explanation for the filtering and also expressed real disappointment that the activity was affecting our operations. Had he been aware beforehand, he would have made the necessary adjustments.
This response from Digicel tells us why it is the most phenomenal entity in the country, and we are looking to partner with the company to bring about a historic and genuine transformation to the education process in Jamaica.
We further ask that the Ministry of Education and Minister Ronald Thwaites take a leaf out of Digicel's book and support SchoolSMS initiatives.
