Don't let C&W fool you again
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Just when we thought that the telecoms sector in Jamaica couldn't get any more interesting or surreal, now we have CIA whistleblower Edward Snowden getting in on the act.
News out of the United Kingdom has it that Cable & Wireless has been helping Britain to spy on unsuspecting Internet users across the world. Wow! Just, wow!
If that's what they are up to in the UK with its strict legal and regulatory regimes, what does that mean for Jamaica and its activities here?
I'm seeing that there's a backlash against Digicel in recent times and that LIME/Cable & Wireless is growing in popularity in some quarters - but we must not forget the sins visited on the Jamaican people by Cable & Wireless when it had Jamaican consumers in a headlock in the bad old days of its monopoly.
This behaviour out of the UK shows that nothing has really changed with this company and it still takes customers for fools.
I have one thing to say: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Watch out, Jamaica, you're being watched.
