LIME-Columbus merger better for consumers
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I am of the opinion that the impending merger between telecommunication providers Columbus Communication with LIME will result in better customer service on all fronts.
Both CWC/Columbus and Digicel will now have to up their ante as there will no longer be a dominant player at whose hands the public must suffer. Cable and Wireless Communications/ Columbus is likely to vigorously compete with Digicel, which will no doubt mean more value and more respect for us all as consumers.
The last decade has seen Digicel acquiring numerous other companies, Claro and SportsMax among them, and in so doing, gaining significant market share with no regulatory impediment.
This new merger will level the playing field and ensure that the giants compete aggressively for the business and respect of their consumers. The players will also have to provide the country with faster, more widespread delivery of mobile, fixed, broadband and TV services, and quad play.
We the consumers will be empowered with better programme packages and be given real choices that suit our lifestyles and pockets.
