'JDIP funds not being used for private development'

Published:Monday | November 28, 2011 | 5:11 PM

The housing ministry is dismissing reports that funds from the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP) are being used for a private development in Clarendon.

The development is being carried out on a property in Karlston Glades popularly called Buckshaven or Bucks Common.

The ministry says it owns the property but the lands have been overtaken by squatters.

However, the ministry says the Housing Agency of Jamaica is moving to regularise the area with infrastructure such as roads and other amenities being put in place.

The Housing Ministry says as part of that process the National Works Agency has been mandated to construct and carry out repairs to the roads in the area.
