Thousands gather for Simpson Millerís Swearing-in

Thousands of people including overseas dignitaries, civic and business leaders have flocked the grounds of Kingís House, the official residence of the Governor General, for the swearing-in Portia Simpson Miller as Prime Minister of Jamaica.

Simpson Miller was sworn in as Jamaicaís seventh Prime Minister on March 30, 2006 and served for 18 months before the Peopleís National Party lost the 2007 general election to the Jamaica Labour Party.

More than 8,000 people have been invited to participate in the ceremony.

Under the beaming afternoon sun, the guests started taking their seats from early this afternoon for the ceremony which is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
