The Foreign Affairs Ministry has confirmed that Aloun Assamba is to take up her position as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom later this month.

Assamba replaces Anthony Johnson who resigned following the change of administration.

The former government minister in the previous People’s National Party administration is an attorney-at-law by profession, and is currently in private practice at Aloun Ndombet-Assamba and Company.

The Ambassador-designate says she will place special emphasis on the Diaspora.

She says her appointment is especially significant given that the country is currently celebrating its 50th year of independence, which coincides with the London Olympics, where Jamaica’s athletes are expected to do well.
