Lucius Thomas takes up new post

Former Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas takes up his new position as police welfare coordinator today, in the Ministry of National Security.
As police welfare coordinator, Thomas will be responsible for reducing obstacles encountered by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and their dependants in accessing pension, medical and death benefits.
National Security Minister Peter Bunting, who made the announcement in May, disclosed the start-up date for Thomas last week during his address at the 28th annual Joint Central Confederation of the Special Constabulary Force Association.
However, speaking with the Gleaner/Power 106 news centre this morning, Thomas said he took up duties yesterday.
Thomas retired from the JCF in 2007, after more than 30 years of service.
He spent two years and nine months out of those years as police commissioner.
