More funds for JEEP
Transport and Housing Minister, Dr Omar Davies has indicated that the Government has identified additional funding over the medium term for Phase 2 of the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme (JEEP).
Addressing reporters at his head offices on Friday, Dr. Davies declined to go into details about where the funds will be coming from.
However, he sought to assure that the employment programme is in safe hands.
The government has said it planned to spend about $6 billion on Phase 2 of JEEP.
Some 35,000 persons are expected to be employed under this leg of the programme.
The Transport and Housing Minister said steps are also being taken to redefine the programme to maximize on returns.
Phase 1 of JEEP was projected to employ 5,000 but that was exceeded with approximately 18,206 persons securing jobs.
