Shanique Myrie hearing continues today

The case against the Barbadian government regarding its immigration practices is to continue today with more cross-examination of the claimant, Shanique Myrie.
The Jamaican woman is claiming that shortly after she was allowed entry to Barbados, immigration officers subjected her to a painful and embarrassing cavity search then kept her in a dark, filthy cell for several hours before she was deported to Jamaica.
She has brought the Barbadian government before the Caribbean Court of Justice claiming the search violated Barbadian laws, its international obligations and the revised Treaty of Chaguaramas.

The CCJ began hearing evidence in Kingston, yesterday.
Yesterday, Myrie revised a part of her statement provided in the case saying it was a mistake.
Myrie recanted after one of several attempts by the lead attorney for the Barbadian Government, Queens Counsel Roger Forde, to discredit her account of her encounter with immigration officers when she arrived in Barbados on March 14, 2011.
Forde will continue his cross-examination today.
The Jamaican leg of the trial is scheduled to run until Friday before it shifts to Barbados.
