Police warns car rental companies
The Police are reporting that it has noticed an alarming increase in the number of crimes, especially murders and robberies being committed by persons and their accomplices driving rented vehicles.
In a statement this morning, the police said during the course of investigations, it has been revealed that these rental companies have little or no information of the persons with whom they are doing business.
It stressed that this is a breach of the law.
The Police say where persons are renting vehicles on behalf of companies, it is advised that a letter of authorisation is obtained.
They are also advising companies and persons renting vehicles to keep a record of each renter's address, telephone number and email address.
The police are also advising rental companies to require the full particulars of drivers, other than the person renting the car who may be allowed to drive a rented vehicle.
The Police are cautioning all call rental companies to comply with the law and to take the necessary precautions as failure to do so may result in prosecution as well seizure and forfeiture action.
