QUOTES: And VCB said ...

Following reports that Jamaican athlete Veronica Campbell-Brown has been tested positive for a banned substance, The Gleaner went to the archives in search of her comments on the issue of doping and other matters.

On Marion Jones:

"Whatever Marion (Jones) has done has put a dark cloud over the sport ... As soon as someone runs a 10.7 (seconds in the women's 100 metres) people are going to say 'that's another Marion'. Marion was one of the most recognised and respected sprinters."

On whether she feels added pressure to become the next standard-bearer for women's athletics, especially sprinting:

"I wouldn't say (it's a) burden (to be among the most recognised in the sport). I try not to carry extra load. All I do is work and do what I do."

On her new workouts at The Brauman camp:

"We are getting older, getting more mature, (it's) to maximise our potential. You can't keep to the same regime."

On doping:

"It's natural to question a lot of things in life. Over the years, when you look at all the past times that people ran, as soon as somebody run extremely fast people are going to speculate and are going to criticise. All I can, and all everybody need to do, is to continue train hard. You cannot really listen to what people have to say because not everybody's going to have positive things to say. You just have to focus on yourself and what you have to do."

On intentions to expand her family:

"We're still young, we're having fun. We do want to have children of our own, but we have a lot of things that we have to make sure that is in order for us. Right now, our career is very important and whenever children come you've got to be ready. It wouldn't be our thing to have kids and still running."

About her book "Better You, Inspirations for Life's Journeys":

"Over the years, I have been a big collector of anything spiritual and inspirational - quotes and poems. I wrote a few on my own and sometime last year, while I was in Greece, I read a few of the poems to my manager's wife. She was impressed by it, she went ahead and read a few to a couple of my teammates and they liked it. So, she was like 'I think you should try and put this into a book.' I took her advice."

On prospects for 2013:

"I have already put 2012 behind me so I am just looking forward to 2013; it's already here and I am just looking ahead in confidence. I am thankful for everything I achieved in 2012 though. It went relatively good, but as an athlete you always want to do more and as a competitor it's always hard to be totally satisfied."
