Second JUTC bus catches fire in less than 2 weeks

Published:Tuesday | September 17, 2013 | 11:02 AM

A second Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus caught fire this morning.

Reports are that at approximately 8:30 a.m., a JUTC driver was alerted to smoke coming from the rear of the bus, by passengers, while driving along Authur Wint Drive in Kingston.

The driver, Wilmont Brodber, reportedly pulled over and immediately evacuated all passengers.

The fire department was alerted and the fire put out by one unit from the Rollington Town Fire Department.

No injuries were reported and senior JUTC personnel and Police Officers were on the scene.

On September 5, 2013 a bus from the State-owned bus company caught fire along Mona Road, in St Andrew. JUTC chairman, Dr Garnett Roper had admitted that the fire extinguishers on that bus were not functional.

A cause in both fires has not yet been ascertained.

More details to come.
