Pockets stapled! ... Call centre workers face new measure to secure client data

Employees in some of Jamaica's call centres are having their pockets stapled when they show up for work.




Davon Crump, the chief executive officer of Global Outsourcing Limited, said this is one of several measures being used to ensure that data in the call centers are not compromised.



"Stapling the pockets is just one of them to ensure that nobody can put an item in their pocket and walk in (to the call centres)," Crump said, noting that tiny devices can be used to download critical data.



"We have to take all necessary precaution to ensure that our data and our clients' data is not compromised in any way," Crump told The Gleaner this morning.



His explanation earlier raised several eyebrows at a conference on cyber security and digital forensics at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus.



He said demonstrating the ability to protect clients' data is one way Jamaican call centres can sway foreign companies wary of Jamaica's reputation for scamming activities.
