Group to file injunction against JUTC over bus routes take-over

KINGSTON, Jamaica:

The National Association of Taxi Operators says it will be pressing ahead with the filing of an injunction to prevent the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) from retaking some of its routes.

Yesterday, a planned strike in protest of the JUTC's decision did not receive enough support from the association's members.

But President of the Association, Michael Morgan says despite the poor support, protests will continue until a meeting is held with the Prime Minister or the Transport Minister.

The state-owned bus company plans to retake its sub-franchise routes and issue a reduced number of licenses to private operators.

But the operators are claiming that the decision will put them out of business.
