FOOTBALL: JFF rolls out big plans for football development
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), is planning to implement a franchise system for the country’s top football competition – the National Premier League.
The Captain Burrell-led administration will begin the franchise system from the 2015 to 2016 season.
The decision was taken the Board of Directors of the JFF during a strategic planning retreat at the weekend.
The JFF says the National Premier League with be allocated to 10 franchises on an equitable islandwide basis to ensure access to high quality football by players and fans right across the island.
The JFF has already established a Franchise Committee.
The committee will be chaired by Gary Sinclair and has been given the responsibility to pilot the transition; including the finalisation of criteria for the franchises.
The JFF has also decided to establish a second tier national competition which will include the parish champions.
Also the JFF will restructure its Board and Congress in alignment with international best practices and the requirements of FIFA.
The JFF says this will result in a substantial reduction in the size of the Board; making it more effective and efficient in driving the transformation of football.
The local body also plans to strengthen the Women's Football by requiring all Parish Associations to have at least one women's competition.
