Number portability delayed to May 2015

Published:Wednesday | June 11, 2014 | 3:53 PM

Yet another deadline has been set for the roll-out of number portability in Jamaica.

The policy should have been implemented in May this year, but Julian Robinson, the state minister in the technology ministry, this afternoon announced that it will instead be launched next May.

But Robinson, contributing to the Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives, has cautioned that the deadline may be missed if LIME is not able to meet the deadline.

He said while Digicel and Flow have received the necessary internal approvals and budget, LIME can only give a commitment in relation to its mobile network, an issue which the minister said is cause for concern among the authorities dealing with the matter.

LIME also operates landline telephones services in Jamaica.
