Christine Lagarde impressed by awareness of Jamaica's need for economic reform
The head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde says she is impressed by the high degree of consensus and awareness on the need to reform the Jamaican economy.
Lagarde says this was due to the excellent work of the Economic Program Oversight Committee and adds that this broad support is essential and will have to be maintained to ensure continued progress and confidence.
Her comments came in a statement released by the IMF yesterday when Lagarde wrapped up a three-day visit to the island.
However, while declaring that Jamaica’s economic outlook is improving, she has cautioned that the country is still to carryout major reforms.
These include improving tax collection, modernizing the public sector and improving the business climate.
Lagarde gave the assurance that the IMF is deeply committed to working with Jamaica to meet its economic goals.
