Published:Thursday | July 17, 2014 | 8:02 PM

The Tourism Ministry says as of Friday, July 18 the ban will be lifted on jet skis and other private personal water craft.

However the ban on the importation their remains in place until further notice.

The island-wide ban was imposed in February after a tourist was fatally struck by a jet ski in Negril.

During the period, the Tourism Ministry sought to regularise commercial operations; and took steps for the Maritime Authority of Jamaica to register all jet-skis in the island.

The ministry says over the past few months the Authority has spearheaded a process to register all Private Water Craft.

It says to date, 90 private and 29 commercial vessels have been registered.

A task force has also been established to better manage the industry.

On June 2, the Government began allowing the operation of commercial jet skis at the UDC beach in Ocho Rios Bay, St Ann ahead of the lifting of the islandwide ban.
