GLASGOW, Scotland:
Jamaican sprinting star Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce says she is disappointed that fellow track athlete Warren Weir was asked to carry Jamaica's flag at Wednesday's Opening Ceremony for the Commonwealth Games.
She says it's swimmer Alia Atkinson who should have been given the honour.
Fraser-Pryce, who represented the Caribbean region by helping to carry the symbolic flag of the Commonwealth Games during the three-hour ceremony, shared her thoughts through a post on her official Facebook page while congratulating Weir on his achievement.
"Congrats to Warren Weir on being selected as flag bearer for Team Jamaica. I would like to however, publicly express my disappointment that Alia Atkinson was not given the opportunity as she is equally deserving as she continues to inspire in the swimming arena and ALL sports should be equal," read Fraser-Pryce's post.
Fraser-Pryce also noted that she was pleased to have been asked to play a role and lauded UNICEF for its efforts to promote the rights of children.
"Could not have imagined being given such an honour here at The Commonwealth Games. Congrats Unicef Jamaica on the role you played in the global effort to put children first. It's those of us who are brave enough to take a stand and be a voice for change that create lasting results," she posted.
