WESTERN BUREAU:
For the second time in a week, gunmen have killed a man on the Negril West End in a robbery.
Wendel Fearon, was last night shot by men riding on three motorcycles.
Fearon, popularly called 'Doug Bert', is reported to have died on the spot after being shot in his car just outside the Supreme Ventures outlet he worked.
The police say about 8:30 p.m, the businessman was driving his car along the West End road when he was attacked.
Fearon received a gunshot wound to the right side of his neck.
His car ran off the road and crashed in a utility pole.
The police say Fearon, who was a licensed firearm holder, still had his gun on his person when he was found.
However, the $80,000 he was transporting to the bank was stolen.
The killing took place close to some of Jamaica's leading boutique hotels and one of the island's premier attractions.
"I am very concerned about the two blatant acts, and the impact it could have on our businesses," said a hotelier who asked to remain anonymous.
On Tuesday, July 29, gunmen on motorcycles robbed and killed Colin Lynch, a businessman in the area.
CORRECTION: Previously, this story had said Fearon operated the Supreme Ventures outlet on West End Negril. That was incorrect. In fact he worked as a security guard.
