No JUTC SMARTER Cards, no concessionary rates for student and elderly come September

KINGSTON, Jamaica:
The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) says come September 1 commuters, such as students and the elderly, will only be able to benefit from concessionary rates through use of its SMARTER Cards.
The cards, which replace cash on buses, were introduced earlier this year as a means of plugging revenue leakage at the JUTC.
Deputy Managing Director of Operations at the JUTC, Kirk Finnikin says the requirement is being used as a gentle nudge to consumers to acquire the cards as the company moves to a fully cashless system.
He says the company has put a number of measures in place, to ensure persons are able to acquire the cards before September 1.
Finnikin was speaking at a Jamaica Information Service Think Tank session this morning.
