Health Ministry lifts ban on electronic cigarettes, Carreras pleased
Local cigarette distributor Carreras is welcoming news that the Ministry of Health will withdraw the ban on the importation on electronic cigarettes.
The ban was announced yesterday with the Jamaica Customs declaring that the health ministry had indicated that it has not been able to determine the health risks, if any, which are associated with using e-cigarettes.
Health Minister, Dr Fenton Ferguson, has since said the ministry has reviewed its position and will lift the ban so that consultations can be held with stakeholders before a final decision is made.
Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs at Carreras, Christopher Brown, says the company believes this is the right approach.
Carreras had suggested that a ban on e-cigarettes is not conducive to doing business and sends the wrong message to investors.
