FOOTBALL: Reggae Girlz in Florida to prepare for World Cup qualifiers
Jamaica’s senior Reggae Girlz have arrived in Orlando, Florida to continue preparation for the CONCACAF Women's Championship to be held in the United States from October 15-26.
The top three teams from the CONCACAF Women’s Championship qualify for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.
A half spot is also available as the fourth placed team heads into a playoff with the third placed side from the South American Women’s Championship.
Jamaica qualified for the CONCACAF tournament after defeating Puerto Rico, Bermuda and Haiti to top Group A of the inaugural Caribbean Women’s Cup in Trinidad and Tobago last month.
However, the Reggae Girlz failed to go all the way in the Caribbean Women’s Cup as they lost 1-0 against hosts Trinidad and Tobago in the final on August 26.
The Florida-based training camp has been organised through the fund-raising efforts of Cedella Marley, the Jamaica Football Federation-appointed ambassador for national women's football in the country.
