The Head of the Police Traffic Division, Superintendent Radcliffe Lewis, is now taking the witness stand in the Bicknell–Forbes trial.

Senior Superintendent of Police James Forbes, and businessman Bruce Bicknell, are on trial for perverting the course of Justice arising from a traffic stop.

SSP Lewis has testified that he gave instructions that were not followed on the day the Tank Weld boss was arrested.

Lewis says he became aware that his instructions were not followed after he got a visit from a deputy superintendent attached to the Anti-Corruption Branch of the police force.

"If my instructions were followed, we would not be here today," Lewis told the court.

The key prosecution's witness at the bribery trial has told the court about the efforts that were made to prevent the Tank-Weld boss from facing the courts for a traffic offence.

Sergeant Jubert Llewellyn testified that on April 13, 2012 he collected a false statement Forbes had prepared at a meeting a day before.

Llewellyn said the document had three signatures and was signed by someone purported to be Justice of the Peace.

The witness said the following day he got a call from head of the traffic division, SSP Radcliffe Lewis, to provide a statement to the Anti Corruption Branch on what had transpired.
