EX-COP ARRESTED AT AIRPORT - Former constable charged with murder after DPP ruling

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) says it will this week provide a comprehensive account of the circumstances surrounding the arrest and murder charge laid against former policeman Odian Williams, who was removed from a departing flight last week. The Gleaner understands that Williams was detained after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) ruled that he should be charged with murder in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred while he was a serving member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

With a three-day total of 227, Issa sits just two strokes behind Mexico’s Maria Fernanda Solis and five shots adrift of Venezuela’s Alexandra Gilly Lora, who currently occupies the bronze-medal position.

Jamaica’s young Reggae Boyz kick-started their Concacaf Under-20 Championships in Mexico with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Honduras in Group C at the Estadio Universitario BUAP, in Puebla, Mexico, on Sunday. Midfielder Jahmarie Nolan, who is also a key member of the under-17 team that secured qualification to the U-17 World Cup earlier this year, continued his rich international goalscoring form with the opening goal for the young Reggae Boyz after 22 minutes.

Jamaica opens with double gold - Beckford lands long jump title, Prince hurdles to first global medal

Jamaica picked up its first medals on day one of athletics at the 2026 Commonwealth Games as Romaine Beckford and Demario Prince mined gold in the men’s high jump and 110m hurdles final, respectively, at the Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow, Scotland. Beckford reigned supreme in the men’s high jump, clearing a height of 2.25 metres to finish atop the podium. India’s Sarvesh Kushare claimed the silver medal with 2.25, while Kimani Jack of England was third with 2.20. Jamaica’s Raymond Richards finished fourth, also clearing a height of 2.20.

The patriotic tune took the coveted title at the grand finale of the Jamaica Festival Song Competition held on Saturday at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew. It will anchor celebrations for the country’s 64th anniversary of Independence this year.
