A 47-year-old man from Blackwoods district in northern Clarendon has been charged after an alleged early-morning incident on the weekend in which a man was reportedly attacked with a gun, the police say.

Jerome Stone, otherwise called ‘Frass’, a labourer, has been charged with shooting with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, using a firearm to commit a felony, and unlawful wounding, a statement said on Sunday.

According to police reports, at about 4 a.m. on Saturday, the complainant was approached by Stone, who allegedly engaged him in conversation in the community.

During the interaction, Stone reportedly brandished a firearm and struck the man in the face several times with it.

A struggle is said to have developed between the two men, after which the complainant ran from the scene.

Police said explosions were later heard in the area, and the matter was subsequently reported.

Following the report, Stone was arrested after being pointed out to law enforcement. He was later charged after a question-and-answer session.
