Poems
Music to my ears
Music, a language of its own,
A story told through melody and tone.
Through our lives we move to music's beat,
Our hearts and souls in harmony meet.
Melodious murmurs move in the mind,
Merging and meshing in mellifluous kind.
Sensual sounds, like a luminous ray,
Stir the soul in a secret way.
Fingers dance on piano keys,
As voices soar in harmony.
We close our eyes, we sway and spin,
As the music takes us deep within.
Percussive rhythm pounds the air,
Cymbals clap with the drums of snare.
The sound builds to a deafening roar,
Then fades away, forever more.

Personal Comparisons
Comparing myself to others around
Seems natural but just might not be right
For when in such measurements I engage
Scattered sparks of secret envy ignite
Comparing myself is born out of thirst
In attempts to feel better about me
And reigns in lieu of fair judgment of self
Producing division and jealousy
When by comparison folk are made small
And I feel quite superior and versed
My ego swells wildly as pride overtakes
But is shattered when the score is reversed
Comparison games and pity parties
Ply the dangerous road of rivalry
But as I learn to love myself in full
I find freedom and they lose potency
Down with comparing, I seek a just end
Like exercising my talents and gifts
Thoughtfully sharing, with no strings attached
My whole perspective eternally shifts
Truth be told comparisons can lend some help
To match desire with motivation
In these unique times more checks are applied
To avoid any trace of obsession
So, as I grow daily in confidence
The finest version of me I can see
The best antidote if I must compare
Is to compare me with who I should be
