WISDOM OF THE WEEK

The right way to use ‘affirmations’

Published:Sunday | June 22, 2025 | 12:07 AM

When we use affirmations, we often focus on what we think we need—money, relationships, success, health, or happiness. We repeat these desires daily, thinking that if we are clear and specific, the universe or divine power will respond accordingly. After all, we believe we know exactly what is required to improve our life or the lives of our loved ones.

WHAT ARE WE REALLY ASKING FOR?

But here is a question we often overlook: Do we really know what is best for us?

Just as parents believe that the best college or job will guarantee success for their child, we, too, calculate what seems ideal. But life has shown us that not everything we desire leads to growth and fulfilment. If our plans always worked out perfectly, there would be no failures, no pain, no learning — only a smooth, perfect life. Yet that is not how life works.

SHIFT FROM ‘WANTING’ TO ‘WELCOMING’

Instead of affirming only what we think is needed, let’s use something more powerful: “Let only the right happen.”

Why? Because while we may know what is suitable, we often don’t know what is truly right. Life’s challenges — though difficult — often guide us towards growth, strength, and wisdom. Gold is purified only when it is subjected to intense heat. Similarly, our struggles are often necessary for our evolution.

So rather than constantly pushing for our personal choices, let’s affirm: “I allow what is right for me to happen to me.”

Whether easy or hard, the right path may not always be the comfortable one, but it always leads to a meaningful destination. When we wish this not only for ourselves but also for our children and loved ones, we align with divine intelligence beyond our understanding.

SURRENDER: THE HIGHER INTELLIGENCE AT WORK

We have relied on our logic and intellect for too long, and yet we often find ourselves stuck or disappointed. The real power lies in surrender – not giving up, but giving over control.

An affirmation of surrender would be: “I don’t know what is right for me. I allow the right to happen through me.”

‘Right’ is much more important than having comfort. This shift brings peace. It is the moment you stop forcing outcomes and begin trusting the divine intelligence that governs life. The results may not be immediate or obvious, but they are always perfect in hindsight. Letting go of the ego’s grip and allowing life to unfold through higher wisdom transforms your journey. You start noticing signs, feeling lighter, and even enjoying the uncertainties of life.

Explore and experiment with the path. Don’t just wish – allow. Don’t just ask – trust. Let the right happen – and life will become more meaningful than ever before.
