Mar 2: Jamaican stocks extend losing streak

The Jamaica Stock Exchange Combined Index lost 225 points or 0.14 per cent on Wednesday to close at 162,989.36 points.

Of the 33 stocks that traded, the losers dominated with 17 stocks losing value, 12 chalking up gains, while the price of four stocks were unchanged. Overall, 6.3 million shares traded valued at $108.5 million.

The three primary market movers, which accounted for 57 per cent of trading activity, were Jamaica Producers Group, which lost 44 cents to close at $29.56; and junior stocks Lasco Distributors, which closed down 10 cents at $5.39 and Lasco Manufacturing, up 5 cents at $4.10.

The combined index includes the main, junior and US dollar equities markets. The JSE Index was down 191.17 points at 154,244, the Junior Market Index declined by 4.94 points to close at 1,943.05 points, while the JSE USD Equities Index was unchanged at 159.73 points.

The combined index has now narrowed its year-to-date gains to 4,720 points or 2.98 per cent. The index peaked at 176,139 points on February 4.
