Volatus Aerospace Inc, a Canadian aerospace and drone solutions provider, has announced a partnership with the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) to deliver advanced drone training and applied technology programmes beginning in April.

The initiative will expand Volatus’ training footprint in the Caribbean and support the development of skilled drone operators in areas such as disaster response, environmental monitoring, infrastructure management, and public safety.

At the core of the partnership is a structured training pathway focused on disaster preparedness and response. It begins with a globally accessible online programme and progresses to hands-on operational training at UTech’s Kingston campus. The programme is designed to prepare participants for emergency response, aerial assessment and mission planning.

“As climate events, infrastructure demands, and public safety needs continue to increase worldwide, the importance of developing skilled drone professionals capable of supporting disaster preparedness and response has never been greater,” said Glen Lynch, CEO of Volatus Aerospace, in a release.

Participants completing the foundational programme will have the opportunity to advance into applied training focused on operational deployment, search-and-rescue support, damage assessment, and complex mission environments.

The partnership is also expected to support educational and applied research initiatives in STEM, environmental monitoring, agriculture, and scientific research.

“This partnership with Volatus Aerospace represents a powerful opportunity to bring cutting-edge drone technology training to Jamaica, and the wider Caribbean, to strengthen Jamaica’s technology workforce and support innovation through applied drone training and research,” said Dr Kevin Brown, president of UTech. “By combining academic excellence with industry expertise, we are helping prepare the next generation of technology professionals for emerging global opportunities.”

Volatus Aerospace says it has trained more than 100,000 individuals globally and continues to expand its network to support industry, government and institutional adoption of drone technology. Its programmes cover workforce development across public safety, infrastructure, environmental monitoring, and industrial inspection.
