Strong Show Of Support At 876Crossfit Launch
876Crossfit recently hosted the official launch of Kingston's first CrossFit Box at its location, 9-11 Barbican Road.
CrossFit is the fastest-growing fitness programme worldwide with 13,000 CrossFit affiliate gyms in more than 120 countries.
CrossFit is a strength and conditioning programme consisting mainly of a mix of aerobic exercises, calisthenics (body weight exercises), and Olympic weightlifting. The programme delivers fitness that is, by design, broad, general and inclusive. It offers universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual, regardless of age or experience.
Many participants are attracted to the wide variety of programming which offers constantly varied functional movements. CrossFit gyms use equipment from multiple disciplines, including barbells, dumbbells, gymnastics rings, pull-up bars, jump ropes, kettlebells, medicine balls, plyo boxes, resistance bands, rowing machines, and various mats.
Dr Jair Lyons, head coach and managing director of 876Crossfit, is a CrossFit Level 1 trainer, TEAM MDUSA Weightlifting Athlete (Levels 1 and 2), and is also a physical therapist with over 10 years experience at The Clinic of Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy.
At the recent launch, Dr Lyons spoke about fulfilling his dream of opening the Crossfit Box which will serve not only the fitness community, but as a place for rehabilitation of his clients.
One of the featured speakers at the launch, Dr Gillian Wharfe, head of pathology and microbiology at the University Hospital of the West Indies and consultant haematologist and oncologist, shared her personal story as a client of Dr Lyons, highlighting his commitment and dedication to all his clients, including accommodating her at 4:30 a.m., every morning, just to suit her busy schedule.
876Crossfit is open seven days a week with a dynamic team of Crossfit Level I-certified trainers.
