RJRGLEANER's 'Paparazzi Edition' clicks at Pegasus
It was an evening of enviable fashion, great company, and straight boogieing on the dance floor at the annual RJRGLEANER Communications Group staff party, which unfolded at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, New Kingston, on Friday. Themed the ‘Paparazzi Edition’, guests rolled out on the red carpet to much fanfare before being wined, dined and thoroughly entertained in true celebrity style.
Hitz 92FM personality Jenny Jenny proved a perfect host for the grand soirée as she got the evening under way with her usual flair and humour, engaging attendees through giveaways and fashion competitions. The occasion would have been incomplete without live performances, and D’Angel, a staple performer at the event, upped the ante in her jaw-dropping set, showcasing her diverse repertoire of music while also dancing up a storm with a few male guests.
Speaking to The Gleaner, the Stress Free singer said she had to “put on a show” as the event holds a special place in her heart.
“I want to thank Dennis Howard for inviting me to this event. It’s kind of my premiere event, so as long as I am in Jamaica, I have to perform here,” she said.
“I had to go hard because I wasn’t here last year. I definitely love collaborating with who has been there in my career media-wise, and so, it’s fitting to just give back and to perform here. The Gleaner and THE STAR bring the news, and we bring the entertainment; it ties in really good.”
On the brink of 2019, guests exchanged wishes for the New Year and there is no better song to proclaim success and prosperity into one’s life than Agent Sasco’s Winning Right Now. The deejay kept the audience wanting more in his performance of the songs featured on his 2018 album Hope River.
POSITIVE NEW YEAR
Agent Sasco shared his own wishes for the upcoming year. “It was a good year, but if the year never good, it would have been a platform fi have a better year. I try to have an attitude of gratitude no matter what,” he said.
“Continuous improvement is something I believe in, so I just want to continue to grow in 2019, 2020, 2021. My resolution is pretty much to continue to do the things that will get me closer to maximising my potential and to hold myself accountable by being self-aware and to surround myself with people who will keep me accountable.”
Also going into the New Year on a good note is British-based deejay Stylo G, who gave a brief performance, which featured his hit single Touchdown Remix, a collaborative effort with Nicki Minaj and Vybz Kartel.
Performances aside, attendees mixed and mingled to the sounds of DJ Delly as he set the tone for the rest of the evening with a throwback set, including tracks like McFadden and Whitehead’s Ain’t No Stopping Us Now, Madonna’s Like A Virgin, and Rock With You by Michael Jackson. Soca enthusiasts were not to be excluded and jumped, ‘palanced’ and ‘wukked up a storm’ to the sounds of Destra Garcia, Alison Hinds, and Square One, among others. DJ Delly could do no wrong with a Buju Banton segment and had the room chanting songs from the deejay’s iconic 1995 ‘Til Shiloh album before segueing into a roots-rock-reggae set. It was soon time for all dancers to roll out on the dance floor to show their variations of popular moves like ‘Fling’, ‘Gas and Shampoo’, and even vintage ones like ‘Della Move’ and ‘Bogle.’ The ladies were not to be excluded and received priority in a comprehensive ‘whine and bubble’ set, adding the icing to a cake that left all musical appetites satiated.
