Munga Honorable to ignite SDC Cricket finals Sunday
Dancehall Star Munga Honorable is set to close the SDC National T20 Community Cricket finals on Sunday, August 27. The grand finale, which will see Fairfield United from Manchester compete against Junction Ballards Valley from St Elizabeth, will take place at the Port Rhodes Sports Club in Discovery Bay, St Ann, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Munga, whose birth name is Damian Rhoden, guarantees an earth-shaking performance filled with hit songs from start to finish and possibly some new material.
The artiste, who has been diligent in honing his own craft, emphasised that he respects the toil of the cricketers in the competition and reminded young talents who are seeking to chart their path to greatness to remain focused.
“Nothing will be handed to you, so try to remain consistent and continue to work. You reap what you sow as the saying says, so hard work and practice will help your development and [you will] eventually reach the targets set for yourself,” Munga stated.
The SDC National T20 Community Cricket, now in its 16th year, is an annual event aimed at fostering community development, under the theme Building Communities…Building Jamaica.
The Flippin Rhymes artiste believes there is value in brands providing support to the platforms that shape the natural talents of the people of Jamaica.
ELEVATING TALENTS
“The competition helps talents to move on from parish level to national and international cricket programmes and with a highly recognised corporate company such as Wray & Nephew aligned, more attention will be brought to the competition whether through marketing or investment,” the entertainer said.
Munga Honorable’s musical catalogue, as well as his tenure on the exciting dancehall scene, is mirrored in his most recent body of work, The Conundrum. The album was submitted to the Recording Academy for Grammy consideration.
“The album has been well received by fans. One of my biggest and most important songs to me, The Prayer, was not available on digital platforms before now and through this album. Actually, I remastered the song and included it on the project so that my fans could finally stream it and use it in reels and TikTok videos,” Munga explained.
The artwork design also reveals the dynamic styles of the artiste. He contends that the artwork, which features seven coloured columns with an image of the musician in differing styles, was a deliberate move to showcase the diversity of his musical style.
“The different looks represent the mood or part of the story that the songs represent. It represents my versatility to produce different types of songs to satisfy any mood that my fans are in at that particular time.”
The Bad From Mi Born singer said he is looking forward to connecting with fans at the Port Rhodes Sports Club on Sunday.
