‘Fi Wi Heritage’ a cultural spectacle for ArtWalk on Sunday
In recognition of October as Heritage Month, Red Stripe Flavours will amplify the October edition of the Kingston Creative ArtWalk Festival to celebrate Fi Wi Heritage, a journey through Jamaica’s history. Set for Sunday, October 29, the event promises to bring Jamaica’s traditions to life, against the backdrop of the historic Water Lane, downtown Kingston
Heritage Month celebrates Jamaica’s history, culture, and the significant contributions of its people to nation-building. Red Stripe Flavours, known for celebrating Jamaica’s cultural fusion through a harmony of art and entertainment, has joined the festival’s producers to create a memorable occasion for the attendees to embrace the nation’s cultural heritage and its contemporary expressions.
The event will be a spectacular showcase featuring a folk-dancehall fusion dance class taught by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s Patrick Earle and Dance Fyah’s Carreen Walton. The Institute of Jamaica (IOJ) will curate a series of cultural activities, including traditional ring games and captivating storytelling.
“We are immensely proud to be part of this celebration of Jamaica’s heritage this month. Jamaica’s culture is beloved and celebrated globally and Red Stripe Flavours has always been deeply intertwined in preserving and promoting what makes us truly Jamaican. It’s an honour to be collaborating with this vibrant artistic and cultural community for the ArtWalk Festival’s celebration of Heritage Month,” Jodi-ann Campbell, Red Stripe Flavours’ brand manager shared.
To further amp up the festivities, there will be an electrifying sound clash between the ArtWalk’s DJ Fenix, and Red Stripe Flavours’ DJ Logon, which promises an unforgettable musical experience. The entertainment package will also feature live performances from Ras I, One Famous, I Higher Tone, Isee Jah High, among others. DJ Talia and Whitty’s Soul Tone will also add to the excitement at the turntables with a soundtrack that mirrors Jamaica’s rich musical heritage.
Throughout the day, attendees can immerse themselves in an art exhibition at F&B Downtown featuring artists Kevin Ho and Keddan Savage; partake in a complimentary Paint and Sip session led by visual artist Dan Thompson, and enjoy an exclusive tour of the IOJ’s fascinating artefacts, ‘Treasures, Mysteries, and Stories’.
“An understanding of Jamaican heritage is critical to our development as a country. The heritage in downtown’s architecture and old buildings is just as valuable as the heritage in our folk dances, literary classics, and recordings of reggae music. We want to harness the potential to diversify the economy and transform downtown Kingston, delivering long-term sustainable development, artistic and economic benefits, and greater social cohesion, identity, and peace,” said Executive Director of Kingston Creative Andrea Dempster-Chung.
With Market Street serving as a haven of local treasures, from handcrafted goods to delicious street food, this month’s Kingston Artwalk’s celebrations promise an enriching experience for all.
