‘I won’t let you go ’til you bless me.’ That declaration from the biblical story of Jacob is the heartbeat of Kevin Downswell’s new Afro-gospel single, Bless Me, which has already struck a chord with listeners since its official release on Monday.

The gospel powerhouse first performed the song live on Sunday during his set at PAN 2025, a day before it became available to the public. Speaking backstage after that performance, Downswell explained how the track came together in a moment of divine inspiration. “The minute I heard the beat of that song, words just flowed like a river without effort. The song is crazy. It’s incredible. I just feel like it’s going to be an anthem to a lot of people who are going through their struggles,” Downswell, who is popularly known for his hit singles You Make Me Stronger, Carry Me, and If It’s Not You, said.

Seconds after hearing the Afro-gospel rhythm produced by PantaSon Music, Downswell said the lyrics poured out. “I heard the rhythm, say for example, 8:15 p.m., the song started 8:16 p.m. Immediately, as the rhythm started, 10 seconds in, the words start flow,” He explained.

Downswell believes the single will bring change to people’s lives, “because the presence of God deh pan it”. He noted that it also marks the first time he has recorded a track in this style.

Fans have already begun embracing Bless Me as their anthem. One Instagram user wrote: “This song just dropped, but from the premiere … it’s been my anthem. It’s like a prayer that my soul has been ringing in God’s ears.” Another commented on YouTube: “I won’t let you go God even after you free me from this depression, worry, fear and heartbreak.”

Sharing on his recent overseas ministry, Downswell said New York was “amazing” with African gospel star Tim Godfrey, and in Connecticut he joined Jonathan Nelson. He explained that experiences like these helped inspire and affirm the message of Bless Me. “In a few weeks, we’re in US, Cameroon, Ghana, Guadeloupe. It just keeps going on.“I’m 100 per cent grateful for what God a do … This Jamaican bwai ya, mi grateful,” he added.

Among the blessings the God is Moving singer has been declaring is the success of his bestselling book, Midnight to Victory: 90 Day Devotional, which was released on August 24 and has already topped Amazon’s spiritual growth category.

He admitted that writing the book was not an easy task, but said he is overjoyed to see how God has rewarded his faithfulness.

“The fact that it was so hard writing the book, made it even way more satisfying, because finishing the book was the toughest thing ever, but then sitting by and watching God do weh him a do, words can’t described,” Downswell explained.
