Jahmiel’s story begins with rhyme and rhythm. Born in Portmore, St Catherine, he was just four years old when he started putting lyrics together – an “old soul” with a maturity far beyond his age. By age eight, he was already performing, and at 10 years old, he recorded his first song.

Music was a family mission, with his father as his first manager and his household as his earliest audience, Jahmiel Foster, who uses just his first name on stage, grew into an artiste shaped by love, discipline, and support.

Influenced by legends like Bob Marley, Buju Banton, and Sizzla, he developed a sound that blends dancehall’s edge with reggae’s consciousness. His latest project, Brother’s Keeper, created with his younger brother, Yo Rockit, continues that tradition.

Now, he steps onto new stages with the same purpose that guided him from the start, making music that speaks to people’s lives.

On Sunday, he brought that energy to Kingston Creative Artwalk Festival– sponsored by Red Stripe Flavours– in a performance that celebrated the culture and spirit of Jamaica itself. We caught up with the Great Man singer in this week’s 5 Questions With... .

1. Your music often carries strong messages of motivation and positivity. What inspires your creativity, and what challenges have shaped that journey?

My biggest inspiration is life itself – the experiences I go through and the things I see happening around me. I’m also inspired by my kids. They look at me like I’m their superhero, and that pushes me to keep going, to show them through my own journey that anything is possible with hard work and positivity. At the same time, one of the biggest challenges I faced early on was believing in myself fully. There were moments of doubt, but I learned that fear is just an illusion. Once I decided to trust my talent and move forward with courage, everything started to fall into place.

2. What message do you want fans to take away from your music?

The message is always positive. I hope they will feel motivated, inspired to move forward, and chase their dreams; and be the best versions of themselves. I give people hope through music, and I think that’s my purpose; it feels right.

3. What was your experience like performing at the Artwalk Festival, and why was it important for you to be part of it?

It was a great experience. I enjoyed every moment of the whole performance. It was important for me because [Kingston Creative] is a non-profit organisation, supporting local creatives. It’s basically for the people and I am for the people. So, being a part of [Artwalk] is something that is aligned with brand Jahmiel.

4. What have been some of the highlights of your career?

There are so many, but the most recent is my debut performance in Ghana; it was exceptional. I performed for over 40,000 people, singing all my songs word for word. That was very inspiring for me, I was overwhelmed, [it’s] a great feeling. The next one is the success of my song You me Luv. I didn’t know that that song was going to do so well because everything was built on the spot; it didn’t take long to create. I was just singing from my heart. At the time, my partner and I were going through some stuff, and I decided I was going to sing to her, and it worked out. The song now has 100 million views on YouTube.

5. You recently released your EP ‘Brother’s Keeper’. Can you share the vision behind the project and what’s next for you?

Brother’s Keeper was a very special project because I worked on it with my younger brother, Yo Rockit. That one is really about staying true to myself, continuing to motivate people, and showing that unity and brotherhood can create powerful art. I now have an all-girls EP coming up, titled Safe Haven, that is slated to be released on October 10–produced by me alongside Shakespeare.
