Shawn Powis, master of the perfect cut
Everyone has different preferences, tastes and styles. Some men prefer to sport high hair and big beards while some will simply wear a low sexy Mohawk. In spite of your likings, men, it is essential that you're excellently groomed. The fact is proper grooming boosts your aesthetic appeal, putting you one step closer to securing a job or scoring big in a relationship. Celebrity barber Shawn Powis knows every trick in the books about grooming and will guide you to achieve a neat and attractive look.
Scruffy beards are known to make men appear tougher. It's like a rite of passage for some boys to transition into adulthood. Having a beard is not a problem, unless it's unkempt. Never forget that your beards require similar care and attention as the hair on your head.
"If you wear big beards please get the necessary beard products such as beard oil, shampoo and conditioner. A big beard is a shovel for bacteria. And for stubble beards, every two days it is necessary to shave to maintain the look," Powis advises.
NASAL HAIR
"Ask your barber to cut the hair from your nostrils every now and then when they are visible," the groom guru recommends.
Nasal hairs have a biological function to filter the air we breathe in. It's a function we all benefit from, so yes, you need them. The question, however, is how much do you need? The reality is you certainly don't need nasal hairs sticking out of your nostrils and staring down at people, which makes is necessary for you to remove them.
HAIR ON THE BACK OF THE NECK
Having shabby hairs at the nape can be distracting and unappealing. Powis, who has been a barber for almost 12 years, told Flair a trim is never completed until the hairs on the back of the neck are removed. The best time for you to ask a barber to remove nape hairs is after the cape has been removed from around your neck.
"If you don't do this, the haircut will look extremely unfinished," Powis said.
Removing chest hairs is not a bad idea either. It balances a fine look after the hairs on the nape have been removed. Also, other places you need to consider moving hair from are the ears and the eyebrows.
"If you're not wearing low hair or a fade hair you should maintain a line over your ear. This is to prevent the hair from growing over. For your brows, you should tell the barber to use the number one gage and gently run it over the brows," Powis said.
MAINTAINING HAIRLINES
Maintaining your hairlines is crucial to attaining an attractive appearance. You must guide your barber to apply the best practices to maintain your hairlines and prevent them from receding. Powis suggests that you ask your barber to avoid pushing back your hairlines to get straightness.
"It's horrible when growing back, and not only that, it grows back very fast. So always follow the natural hairline. And ensure your barber cleans his clippers and use fresh razors at all times. Rubbing alcohol or aftershave must be used after each shave," Powis said.
