Our election coverage promise to you
Today, with clear indications that another general election is on the horizon, The Gleaner launches its special coverage of the race to Jamaica House.
Our team of reporters will continue to be guided by our Code of Ethics and Professionalism. It demands that the team must report the news "accurately, thoroughly, and without bias or malice". We will uphold this commitment.
The code calls for us to provide commentary and opinion "with the expressed goal of helping people to understand the many issues that touch their lives". The code notes, too, that "while not affiliated to any political party or section of the community, we support the policies and actions of any group we believe to be serving the public interest". We will uphold this commitment.
The newsroom leadership will establish a four-member panel to examine and report on every single complaint against us during the campaign period.
We do not take the trust that you have vested in us for granted and recommit ourselves to responsible journalism in every facet of our operations. We will work hard to ensure we do not fail you as you get ready to elect a government to run the affairs of Jamaica for another five years.
We have an experienced team of reporters and commentators ready to provide the best reporting, the best analysis, and the best commentary pieces across print, radio, and online.
