Education and Information Minister Ruel Reid ... ministers got the same five per cent increase on basic pay as all other public servants whose unions signed a wage agreement.

The Information Ministry has issued a statement rejecting claims that government ministers, the Leader of the Opposition and Opposition Members of Parliament awarded themselves hefty salary increases retroactive to April 2017.

According to the ministry, they got the same five per cent increase on basic pay as all other public servants whose unions signed a wage agreement.

The retroactive salaries were paid in March.

"Claims being circulated in social media fuelled by irresponsible statements that the Government ministers paid themselves hefty salary increases before signing off
with other groups are patently false," said a ministry spokesperson in the statement.

In the meantime, the ministry said negotiations continues with some groups in the public sector.
