Government Senator Charles Sinclair is accusing former National Security Minister Peter Bunting of frequently resorting to "name calling" when dealing with issues affecting the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA).

Sinclair was responding to a Gleaner article earlier this week, where Bunting called him "an idiot".

At a Jamaica Labour Party South St James constituency conference on Sunday, Sinclair called on Bunting to tell the country what he knows about a firearm dealer's licence issued to the operator of a local gun range in 2015.

Bunting responded, "Charles Sinclair is an idiot. Your questions should be directed to Dwight Nelson. I did a probe months ago anticipating this."

In reply, Sinclair said, "I implore Mr Bunting to remain focused and stick to the issues. The shouting and name calling is seen by many as an attempt to deflect from his failed tenure."

Repeating his call for Bunting to tell what he knows, Sinclair said, "Based on the comments and reports already in the public domain, there are many more questions to be asked of his stewardship over the FLA than answers he is prepared to give."
