A senior executive at the National Commercial Bank (NCB), Dane Nicholson, is facing serious criminal charges in connection with alleged sex-related offences involving a female employee, court records and law-enforcement sources have revealed.

Nicholson, who heads NCB’s fraud-prevention division, was charged with six counts of rape and two counts of grievous sexual assault.

The alleged incidents reportedly took place over a year ago at the complainant’s residence, sources told The Gleaner.

He appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on September 16 and was granted bail in the sum of $1.2 million. He is expected to return to court on November 24.

Nicholson’s attorney, King’s Counsel Peter Champagnie, declined to comment on the matter when contacted. Nicholson also did not respond to Gleaner requests for comment.

NCB, the country’s largest commercial bank, acknowledged that it was “aware of a report concerning allegations involving an employee”.

However, it sidestepped questions about whether the complainant was also a bank employee.

“While we do not comment on ongoing legal proceedings or individual employee matters, we assure all stakeholders that NCB is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace for all,” the bank said in a written response to questions from The Gleaner on Thursday.

NCB said the “situation” would be handled in accordance with its internal policies and procedures.

“Out of respect for the legal process and the privacy of all individuals involved, we will not be making further public comments at this time,” the statement said.

Nicholson, widely regarded as a top expert in banking fraud and social engineering scams, has publicly shared his journey from a modest upbringing in rural St Andrew to senior leadership at the bank.

In a 2023 interview with The Sunday Gleaner, he recounted growing up in a leaking house, where he and his siblings slept around a bucket placed on the bed to catch rainwater. He also described the trauma of rats biting his younger brother during the night, prompting him to sleep in his shoes out of fear. These early hardships, he said, became a driving force behind his ambition to escape poverty and build a better life for his family.
