JRAA rushes to help Jamaica recover with relief supplies due shortly
The Jamaica Relief Aid in Aruba (JRAA) has joined the growing list of international agencies committing to assist Jamaica in the wake of Hurricane Melissa.
The JRAA, established by the Consulate of Jamaica in Aruba under the leadership of Honorary Consul Don Taylor, says the committee will be focusing on providing basic necessities, perishable goods and sanitary items to communities most affected by the hurricane.
In a release on Friday, the agency said in order to ensure a streamlined and coordinated response, all relief supplies will be directed through the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM).
The JRAA said this will ensure that the donations align with the country’s logistics framework and prioritised needs.
The arrival of the relief resources is anticipated within the next two to three weeks, as coordination and shipment arrangements are finalised
The Aruban private and public sectors have also pledged their support, joining forces with the Jamaican community in Aruba to ensure the success of this humanitarian effort by actively contributing to the collection and mobilisation of relief resources.
The Red Cross will also play a key role in ensuring that the collection, shipment, and distribution of supplies are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with established humanitarian standards.
