Rudddy Spencer is an anachronism

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I openly and unabashedly admit my admiration for Prime Minister Andrew Holness in what appears, at least to me, to be his effort to infuse some civility into the politics of this country.

I know that it will take time before impartiality becomes the norm in Jamaican politics, but he seems to be trying.

However, I think the prime minister blotted his copybook a little and missed a golden opportunity to send a very strong signal when he allowed the Ruddy Spencer/RADA issue to slide demanding only a withdrawal and an apology from the minister.

In my humble opinion, the prime minister should have privately pressured Minister Spencer to resign, and if he refused, he should have been fired. He needs to be unequivocal that he does not subscribe to Minister Spencer's pronouncements

To me, that would have sent the appropriate signal to his party and the entire country that we are at least trying to move away from tribalism and the rewarding of the party faithful above ethical principles.

Jamaica needs a new beginning in politics, and on this issue, it's still not too late.
