Publish more inspirational front-page photos

Published:Tuesday | April 3, 2018 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I enjoyed your photograph of the blossoming pouis tree on the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies, which was published on the front page of The Gleaner, April 2, 2018. It was a welcome relief from the mostly appalling and depressing news that we get from the media daily. I thank your paper for this treasured moment of joy in the flow of our beleaguered consciousness.

I suggest that you publish a photograph of this kind on the front page of every Sunday Gleaner. Make this one of your traditions. These could be photographs of the country's landscapes, flora and fauna, or important works of Jamaican art. Perhaps you could collaborate with the National Gallery by publishing pieces from their collection.

This would make your paper not only a source of information and education, but also a source of badly needed inspiration.

We need art, said Nietzsche, so we do not die from truth. Your aim is to give us truth. So please give us a little more art that can help us live.
