Reconsider hike in Dunn's River fees
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I just read with dismay the Gleaner article outlining a 67 per cent rise in the entry fees to our local residents to access the Dunn's River Falls and Park. Even though it's been nine years since the last increase, let me categorically say that even the J$600 was prohibitive to many locals. I know this because my business takes groups on trips around the island.
Dunn's River Falls and Park is making enough money to continue with a lower price for the local population. Let us not take it for granted that any price is affordable to everyone. Always take into consideration that there are high associated transportation costs for even getting to the attractions.
Enough of our people feel excluded from the local tourism experience, and for a public company that is awash in profits, this is pushing more of the locals away.
I urge Dr Damian Graham, Urban Development Corporation general manager, to reconsider the hike in fees.
